Debra Furst

Debra, a native Texan, grew up in La Marque, Texas, and attended Southwest Texas State University and Texas Tech University School of Law.  She practiced corporate and securities law for several years before retiring to the ranch. She learned to ride and cut under the instruction of John Wold beginning in 1992.  Highlights of Debra’s show career include showing great horses such as Play My Dream and Gay Boy Hickory.  In 2001, she won the Amateur Division of the NCHA Futurity aboard A Zack Cut Jewel.  Debra and Jack established Furst Ranch in 1997.  They have two children - a son, Jackson, and a daughter, Jordan.  Debra still practices law on a limited basis.



Jack Furst

Jack grew up in Pennsylvania and moved to Texas with his family in 1974.  He graduated from Arizona State University and The University of Texas at Austin with an MBA.  After several years as an investment banker in New York City, he returned to Dallas to partner in a private equity firm.  He currently owns his own investment firm, Oak Stream Investors, Inc.



John Wold
Head Trainer

John grew up in Billings, Montana, and learned to ride early in life.  As a youth, he rode jumping and halter horses.  As he got older, his interest expanded to other disciplines and, as a teenager, he trained and showed reining horses.  After school, he moved to California and rode and trained reined cow horses and was introduced to cutting.  He worked for Chubby Turner for a time and eventually moved to Texas to begin his own cutting horse training operation.  He worked out of his facility in Kaufman, Texas, for many years before moving to Furst Ranch in 1996.  John is the head trainer at Furst Ranch and has been a driving force in the success of that operation.  John is married to Amy and he has two adult daughters.





Amy Wold
Barn and Broodmare Manager

Amy developed her love of horses in Cincinnati, Ohio, where she grew up on a farm and showed in her local 4-H Club and open pleasure horse shows in southern Ohio.  Her love of horses inspired her move to Texas and, in 1995, she went to work for Kobie Wood where she was introduced to the sport of cutting.  During the past 20 years, she has enjoyed showing and helping care for the horses.  She has been with Furst Ranch since 2005 where her responsibilities include warming up select horses, barn management and mare and foal care.




Cary Allcorn
Ranch Manager

Cary has been a cowboy since the day he was born.  He grew up in Mesquite, Texas, and, as a teenager, spent summers in New Mexico helping on a cattle ranch.  He began work with Furst Ranch in 1994.  His passion is cattle and he is responsible for overall ranch management and the cow-calf operation on Furst Ranch.  He also assists with breaking two-year olds and he loves to team rope, play the guitar and sing.  He lives on the ranch with his wife and his two sons.




Javier Gobea
Maintenance Supervisor

Javier began work with Furst Ranch in 1997.  His responsibilities include general ranch and equipment maintenance and hay production.  Javier and his wife live on the ranch with their three sons.
